Common Dishwasher Problems

Dishwasher doesn't drain

When your dishwasher doesn’t drain there could be a few different problems. First, the drain pump could be failing or plugged. The repair would be a new drain pump assembly.

Another, the drain hoses could be plugged. Good advice would be don’t wash down cans of nacho cheese in your dishwasher. If this does unknowingly occur blain it on the kids. The repair might include new drain hoses.

One more thing to consider is did the dishwasher stop draining with the installation of a new garbage disposal? Sometime, installers fail to knock out the dishwasher plug on the new disposal, blocking the dishwasher drain.

These are just a few things to look for when your dishwasher isn’t draining.

Dishwasher leaking from the front door

When there is water coming out of the bottom of the front door several things could be causing this. Are there suds in your dishwasher? Are you using the right soap? When fill with suds the water can seep right out the front by manufactures design. Dishwashers are designed to be used with soaps that don’t create suds. Check the soap. If your dishwasher is filled with suds add 1 cup of vinegar and run a rinse cycle.

Another issue is the dishwasher door. Door seals need to be kept clean. Door hinges can break and bend, which might cause dishwasher doors not to close right.  Dishwasher hinges and door seals can be repaired or replaced.

One more thing is if the water valve is only partially closing. Then water can continue to over fill.

Not enough water

Water valves can fail to open or close. If the water valve stops opening all the way the dishwasher would not get enough water. If they fail to close the dishwasher keeps filling and draining. These simple repairs are worth fixing in most cases.

Dishes do not get clean

The design of dishwashers greatly influences the cleaning power of each machine. With that said if the spray arms are blocked by dishes or clogged by debris that really affects the cleaning power. Spray arms can be cleaned out or replaced.

Is the circulation motor working properly? They can be replaced or repair giving your favorite dishwasher new life again.

Dishwasher doesn't start

Check the child lock feature first. Many dishwashers have a lock feature where you can lock the touchpad so little children cannot start the dishwasher. Sometime this accidentally is activated. Check your owner’s manual for more details. Other times the touchpad fails and can be replaced this is often a worthwhile repair and can extend the life of your dishwasher.

Dishwasher door doesn't latch

When the door latch doesn’t engage it could be out of alinement or a part failure.   The parts that could fail are; the door latch, the strike plate might have been damaged, the dishwasher door hinges, and door seals. The safety switch is engaged when the door latches properly and sends a message that allows the dishwasher to start. Leonard can fix these problems call 480.440.7234

Dishwasher makes new grinding sounds

The dishwasher has a circulation motor and if debris somehow get stuck in the motor it could start grinding. Keep your dishwasher filters clean and clear to protect the motor. Dishwasher circulation motors are replaced with OME parts and add years to the performance of the dishwasher.
